Keeping Your Whites White

I read this tip in Lucky Magazine (April 2008) to freshen up yellowed T-shirts. This tip is from Karen Reinitz and Abigale Levinson, the designers behind AKA New York.

They say to put the t-shirts into the wash and start filling it with water and add detergent. After the washer is filled, drop in one aspirin and let the cycle finish. Supposedly it really works.

Henry wears so many white t-shirts that it is really worth giving a try. It’s aspirin, not much I need to do. I’ll let you know how it goes the next time I do laundry.

24 Season 7 Trailer

I guess the trailer for the seventh season of 24 has been out for awhile now, but I’ve just watched it. I’m still not sure how they are going to explain that Tony is still alive because we saw him die. Hopefully season 7 will be better than season 6 because season 6 really sucked.

Wii Fit

41iQxZxxHcL._SL160_ I pre-ordered the Wii Fit a few weeks ago and it finally came last Thursday. I didn’t have time to start playing with it till Sunday, but then once I started, Henry wanted to give it a try too. And we’ve been enjoying it since.

I know it’s a gimmick and could possibly be a waste of money, but it’s gotten me to, somewhat, work out the last three days for over an hour. I don’t remember the last time I went to the gym for three days in a row, never mind three weeks in a row. Work just keeps getting in the way, and Facebook, and Kaboodle.

When I’ve been on it, I do the yoga and strength training. I do some of the aerobics, but I gotta say, I suck at hula hopping, I guess no one taught me how to do it right when I was a kid because Henry keeps making fun of me. I like the rhythm boxing though. It’s hard to do the running ones in my apartment since I do have neighbors below me. I do some of the balance games, but my balance is pretty crappy. Henry on the other hand skips the yoga and strength training and goes right for the aerobics and balance games. He’s got a knack for it.

But it’s been pretty worth it if it gets me off the couch to do some kind of work out and gets Henry to do some active games. He’s currently super hula hopping to his hearts content and doesn’t realize he’s actually getting a work out. Watching him from behind, he actually looks kind of funny and I have no clue why he was making fun of me. I gotta try to grab a video for you guys to watch one day, it’s pretty entertaining.

And since we get scored on everything, we constantly work at besting each others scores, though Henry owns most of the records for the fun activities.

The Family Circus Mother

519S2XZV1KL._SL160_ As a kid, my sisters and I would share (or fight over) the Sunday comics. I remember reading Peanuts, Family Circus, Garfield, Beetle Bailey, Blondie, Hagar the Horrible and many others that I can’t remember right now.

So it’s sad to hear that the mother that Family Circus was based on has passed away. Thelma Keane, the wife of creator Bil Keane passed away at the age of 82 of Alzheimer’s.

Henry’s Graduation Party

Two years have come and gone and Henry can officially be Henry Sham, MBA. To celebrate his achievement, I threw him a party last night for family and close friends at a local wine bar, Riposo 46.

I had been there earlier this year for Mike’s birthday/Oscar viewing party and really liked the easy going atmosphere.

Yesterday was also a great day for the party since most of us had Monday off for Memorial Day. And since Riposo 46 was a pretty small wine bar, they closed the place down for our “private party.” How cool is that? Combine that with unlimited food and wine/beer, could anyone ask for a better party?

For the wine and beers, we had sparkling wines and rosé, white whines, red wines, dessert wines and various beers. I really liked their prosecco (Gujot from Drusian, Italy) and their riesling (Salm Two Princes ‘05 from Nahe, Germany). For the food, we had cheese with olives and fruits and various flatbreads and paninis. Our two dessert options were a chocolate cake and a cheese cake. I highly recommend the cheese cake.

Cameron and John, who were working last night, were great. They kept us well fed and were very attentive to all 20+ of us. And they were fine when a few of us got kind of loud and rowdy (you know who you are!), and that was part of the reason why I wanted a private place, because I knew that would happen.

I think everybody had a great time and Henry was happy with the venue and our service from Cameron and John. You can tell from the pictures that as the night progressed, eyes were starting to glaze over. ;)

After we left Riposo 46, some of us headed to Sing Sing on Ave A for some karaoke which involved songs from Rent, Enrique Iglesias, New Kids on the Block, Britney Spears, Madonna and numerous other ones. Again, lots and lots of fun! But for Henry and me, the fun ended around 3am, we are no longer spring chickens!
