Poochie Place

For all those people with dogs in NYC, my friends Ming (she likes to be called Michelle) and June have a dog grooming place in the East Village at 336 East 5th Street called Poochie Place. I met both of them at Bing where they both bought their Pekingese dogs. I never thought that we’d graduate college and they’d eventually have their own business grooming dogs, but they did always love their dogs Gizmo and Simba. If I liked dogs and had a dog, I’d definitely bring it to the Poochie Place to get groomed and not just because they’re my friends.

There was a write up on Poochie Place back in April in the Epoch Times. You can read it at http://www.theepochtimes.com/news/6-4-22/40708.html, just know that every time they talk about Michelle, they mean June and when they say June, it’s really Michelle, even in the picture.

Laundry for Two

Henry and I do laundry about once every three weeks, sometimes it will be four. When we were still in Flushing, we actually didn’t do our own laundry. There was a laundromat around us that charged 45¢/pound, which was amazingly cheap. There was also one guy there would would always round down for us. I brought in what should have been $18+ but he was like, “How about $15?” and he would also help me bring the bags to the cars (with three weeks of laundry, it was usually two laundry bags full of clothes), the women there barely helped me bring the laundry bag down from the top of the washing machines. Anyway, it’s a pain now because I’m actually doing our laundry again. How often does your average couple do of laundry? Is three loads excessive? I’ve been doing two loads of color and one load of white, is that normal? I would love to just have someone do my laundry for me, but it’ll be way too expensive.

Update: I asked a place around here and they charge $1.50/lb!! That’s insane.

Inexpensive Make-Up

I got this info from one of my co-workers. Supposedly Bloomingdale’s is launching a new line of make-up and you can buy it online, everything is $1, except for the sets. I can’t guarantee that the items will be full size, they may just be small samples, but at a $1, it’s not too bad. I ordered some stuff make-up and some brushes and tweezers (each for $1). It’s $7 for shipping regardless of how many items you buy, I bought 12 items. Check it out at: http://www.eyeslipsface.com/elfshop/default.asp.

Update: Nora sent me an IM last night saying: “Some of our customers have received emails regarding the eyeslipsface.com website. We want you to know that Bloomingdale’s and Bloomingdale’s by Mail are in no way affiliated with www.eyeslipface.com or the e.l.f product line, nor with any email regarding the website or product line, and we do not sell e.l.f. products. ” so make your purchase cautiously!

Update on 10/23: I placed an order on 9/28 and still have not received it yet. I e-mailed them to see what’s taking so long and the message I got back is:

Due to high volume it may take up to 3 - 5 weeks from the date ordered to ship your order, although your confirmation email may have stated a shorter wait time.
Although your credit or debit card has been authorized, it will not be charged or debited until your shipment is in transit.
We are processing your order and it will ship as soon as possible, and we are sure you will LOVE the products.
We apologize for the delay and appreciate your patience.

Update on 11/1: On 10/28 they charged my credit card (four weeks after I placed my order!) so hopefully I will get my order this week.

Elaine & Vinny’s Wedding

Elaine looked beautiful in her wedding gown, walking down the aisle with her mom and dad. It was my first time at a Catholic wedding so I spent a lot of time looking around at other people trying to figure out if I was doing the right thing, whether it was sitting, standing, kneeling, praying, etc. The wedding was very sweet and I could feel my eyes welling up when Elaine and Vinny were exchanging their vows, but I was able to hold it in, wouldn’t want to ruin the eye make-up that Amy put on me. =) After the wedding, there were pictures in the church and then back into the limo for pictures in the park. Then it was back to the Ritz-Carlton for cocktail hour, the hors d’oeuvres were pretty yummy and the white wine they served was very good. I stayed away from the red wine because I didn’t want it to stain my lips and teeth.

When we got our placecards, Henry and I were a little confused. Nelson’s had “The Met” (a bar in Chinatown that we frequented a lot after college). Amy and Lily had “Union Turnpike”. Henry and I had “The Sham’s”. We weren’t sure if we were sitting at a table by ourselves. But then we saw some of our friends and they were also seated at “The Sham’s” and that’s when I realized it was the place (our Flushing apartment) and not the people (us!). Once I realized what it meant, I thought it was freaken cool! The blurb on our table said, “The Shams are friends of the couple that love to entertain — so they tend to have gatherings with games, food and drink during the holidays. Vincent surprised everyone during a game of ‘Guessing your Secret Santa‘ by getting on his knee and proposing to Elaine. Santa was really cool that year!” I felt honored that we had a table named after us. =)

The food was very good. We had a jumbo lump crabcake for the appetizer, which really was a huge serving that was very yummy. The main course was medallions of beef and lobster. You really can’t go wrong with steak AND lobster! For dessert we had the wedding cake and a warm molten chocolate tart which was really good too. The wedding cake was beautiful.

The first dance between the couple was very entertaining. It was fun to watch and you could tell that Elaine and Vinny were having fun and were very happy. I can’t even begin to explain the money dance, but you’ll know what it is when you see the photos. Elaine and Vinny both got nice bras out of it.

I wish Elaine and Vinny the best and I hope they have a great time in Hawaii!

House - Lines in the Sand

Adam is a 10 year old autistic boy. He seems to have trouble focusing and only draws squiggly lines. He starts choking and screaming while eating his macaroni and cheese.

House is giving Cuddy a hard time for removing his old carpet with his blood stain. He refuses to go back to his office until it is restored. The girl from last week is Ally. She “thinks” she caught what her dad had, the “rhino thing.” She pulls down her shirt for House because her chest hurts too. They scan Adam but it comes back negative. They are discussing the case in the nurse’s station beacuse he won’t go back to his office. Foreman goes to get a stool sample when Adam starts choking and spitting out white stuff.

Now House is in Wilson’s office. Foreman conducts another test and find a conduction abnormality. They are sitting in a conference room discussing Adam when Cuddy walks in, she has it booked for a meeting. Cuddy tells House that Ally has called the clinic fifteen times for House. She calls Ally a stalker and is going to notify security. She goes to start her meeting when House interrupts by screaming, “You can’t stop our love!” Foreman wants Wilson to biopsy Adam since he is the oncologist, just to be safe. Wilson finds that Adam does not have cancer because the cells under his arm are not lymph cells but are liver cells.

House is back in Wilson’s office. They find that nothing is wrong with Adam’s liver. House thinks it may be the parents slipping the kid something so they don’t have to deal anymore. Wilson tells Cuddy the restraining order was extreme and tells her it may be easier just to restore the carpet, but she refuses. Now House is in Cuddy’s office. Foreman is definitely worried about being in her office. Cuddy catches them, she gets a call. Adam is being rushed to the cardiac ICU. The biopsy comes back negative so the parents are not posioning Adam. So House thinks it’s something the kid ate. Foreman goes back to their house to bag everything. He finds gypsum weed. (I remember that from an episode of CSI with the guy from Gilmore Girls.) House leaves and finds Ally on his motorcycle. Cuddy catches them and tells her to stop going to the hospital. House “talks” to Adam to see if he ate gypsum weed or something else in his backyard. Adam picks the picture of the sandbox and then his eyes roll back. (Kind of gross.)

House’s new office is now in the chapel. The eye rolling back is consistent with gypsum weed poisoning, but Foreman figures it’s a micro-tumor. Ally comes back again and is in Cuddy’s office. Cuddy wants House to put an end to it. He tries to break it to her Casablanca style and notices something odd with her tears. Turns out she has spores in her brain from an earthquake while she was in Fresno. House also figures out what is wrong with Adam. The squiggles he’s been drawing are what he sees because there are worms in his eyes. ILL! He was playing in the sandbox while a pet poops in the sandbox and then he eats the sand, now there are worms invading his body. Wilson goes to Cuddy’s office to read her the symptoms for a mild and rare form of autism that sounds a lot like House, especially disliking change in settings and/or routines. Wilson clarifies that House doesn’t want the carpet restored, he needs it restored. Cuddy finally has his carpet restored.

Next Episode: The next new episode is on Tuesday, October 31st (Halloween) because of the World Series.
