Ikea in Hicksville

On Sunday, Henry and I went to the Ikea in Hicksville, LI to pick up some stuff for our new place. We’ve been there a ton of times in the past few years, so when I see tags in English and Spanish that’s not a problem. My problem with our last visit was that a lot of tags we looked at were only in Spanish. There were still some that had English and Spanish, but I think English is still our official language, so it surprised me. Is this a sign of the future? Will I have to learn Spanish to shop at Ikea now? Is this a trend across all Ikeas or just the one in Hicksville?

Without a Trace

Without a Trace I haven’t been watching TV much this summer, not much appeals to me that I haven’t seen already, usually we’re watching baseball or golf highlights. So after Henry and I had dinner I was flipping around and Without a Trace was on TNT. It’s one of those shows that I can get addicted to within the first five minutes. So I caught the beginning and ended up watching that episode, plus the two after it! It really is a good show, but I always try to flip the channel before it starts so I don’t get sucked in. The first episode was “Revelations” with Hector Elizondo, a pretty good episode. Hector is a priest who disappears. The second episode was “The Friendly Skies” with Tim Matheson and Heather Donahue. Heather is a flight attendant who disappears. I’ve seen this episode during the original airing, but sat through the repeat. The last episode was “He Saw, She Saw” about a wife who gets kidnapped while getting into her car in a mall parking lot with her husband close by.

I really like Anthony LaPaglia, he’s a handsome older man. Eric Close is cute but could use some more meat on his bones.

During the fall season, it’s moving from Thursday to Sunday on CBS. I liked it after CSI but now I think it will be after Cold Case, another Jerry Bruckheimer show.

Nora’s Bachelorette Party

Sorry guys, there are no scandalous pictures. Apparently at the All American Male Strip Club you are not allowed to take pictures of the show. Now if you think you can take pictures of your friends while there is no show going on on the stage, you are wrong. That also is not allowed, even though they don’t say it. Two of our cameras got snatched by a guy while there was no show on the stage and we were taking pictures facing the opposite direction of the stage. Dada got into a shooting match with him and even called him a prick. But that wasn’t the worst part, the worst part was that the club it was supposed to be at was closed down the night before by court order and had to get moved to another club (Roxy) at the last minute. We actually showed up at the other club before a lot of the workers did. We were in line for probably about two hours before we were brought in and seated in the back in a booth that did not seat close to nine people. But while we were in line, Dada went to the bathroom and brought back a friend for Nora.

We also got a hot seat for Nora. Ben and I got one for Dada too. Nora’s was over in about 5 seconds, the guy flipped her upside down and that was about it. Dada’s was definitely worth it. Ben and I could not stop laughing and while laughing we were wondering when would be a good time to run and hide from Dada. But we both lived to buy her a hot seat another day. =)

Some of the strippers were pretty cute. I wasn’t a fan of the short stocky ones, you know the ones that can’t put their arms down when they walk.

I think after everything, we still had a good time.

Here are a couple more pics of Nora and her bridesmaids. Cora was out of town so she’s missing from the photos.

Update: Raquel put up two pics from Nora’s Bachelorette Party on her blog. One of the pics has a side profile of the cute masseuse we were all drooling over.

Henry’s Birthday Pics

Now that I have internet access again I can put up all the photos that I’ve been resizing but had no means to put it online. Quick recap of Henry’s birthday celebration. We celebrated on 8/11 with our friends at Mara’s Homemade. The service was excellent, the food was okay. We ended the night at Sing Sing with some karaoke. There were old favorites from Heart, Debbie Gibson, Tiffany and Michael Jackson’s Man in the Mirror (okay, they’re not that old) and new songs like All-American RejectsMove Along and Paris Hilton’s Stars are Blind (not my choice at all, I actually can’t stand her and wish she would just go away) and of course Henry sang Enrique Iglesias.

Thanks for coming out and celebrating with Henry!

Elaine’s Bridal Shower

Elaine’s bridal shower was awhile ago, I think it was on August 6, but I’ve been busy moving and had no internet access at home till yesterday. There were a good amount of people who attended and there were lots and lots of gifts. And what bridal shower would be complete without games? We played Pin the Tail on the A**, it was supposed to be Pin the Tail on Vincent, but there was another game where we were not allowed to say Vincent or wedding, there was also the toilet paper wedding dress game and a bingo game where we would mark off gifts that Elaine unwrapped.

The bridal shower was held at Tigerland at 85 Avenue A. The food was pretty good. The staff there was very friendly and attentive. The food just coming out non-stop. Once a dish was almost done, they would bring out another one. If anyone can remember the specific dish names, let me know, all I remember where things like spring rolls, sliced up beef, really good fried rice and a tapioca coconut soup dessert, but it tastes much better than I make it sound. Tigerland has a lot of great reviews on Citysearch and Menupages.
